A US reporter was filmed telling a towing company worker to 'lose weight' and it's causing uproar

“Maybe if I was missing some teeth, they’d hire me here.”

AN ESPN REPORTER has been suspended after footage surfaced of her telling a towing company worker to “lose weight”.

In the one-minute tirade, Britt McHenry also criticises the woman’s teeth and education. This, despite the fact that she was told she was on camera early on in the exchange.

She called the worker a “college dropout” and said that the woman didn’t “have a brain”.

It’s unclear what exactly prompted the outburst, but Arlington News reports that McHenry had her car towed in Virginia on April 6th.

The footage has caused uproar in the United States where it immediately went viral.

Last night, ESPN announced that it had suspended McHenry for one week in light of the incident.

In a message posted to her 104,000 followers, McHenry apologised for saying “insulting and regrettable things”.

In an intense and stressful moment, I allowed my emotions to get the best of me and said some insulting and regrettable things. As frustrated as I was, I should always choose to be respectful and take the high road. I am so sorry for my actions and will learn from this mistake.
